BTW, many folks (including me) would argue that OpenType features should never change the character code. This statement needs parsing, I think. OpenType Layout features never do change the character…2 -

Yes, it's an optical illusion, so it needs to be demonstrated, not explained. By the way, it is more pronounced when the straight segments are vertical than when they are horizontal.4
